Nerissa's Story -
7.30 Report on ABC
| |
I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease at the age of 28.
I will never forget that day - 12 January 2006. Walking out of the neurologist's office and onto the street, I remember wondering why things didn't look any different when my world would never be the same again.
Over the following months, in an attempt to get my head around the diagnosis, I looked for information on young-onset Parkinson's disease and found very little.
I wanted to hear the stories of other young people with Parkinson's, their symptoms, their diagnosis, the impact on their lives and how they live with it each day. On the pages of this website you will find my story.
Facing a life-long battle against Parkinson's disease I have set up a foundation, POP (Perspectives on Parkinson's) to help realise my vision.
My vision is a cure for Parkinson's disease in my lifetime.
By supporting POP you are helping fund research and services to both improve the quality of life, and help find a cure, for people with Parkinson's.
Take care,
Nerissa
