Message from Nerissa Mapes, Founder

I filmed this very raw video about a year after I was diagnosed with young-onset Parkinson's disease.

It is almost four years now since "D Day" which is what I call the day I was diagnosed. Some things have become a little tougher, some things a little easier. I have moments of frustration, anger and sadness. I say moments because I let them come and stay for a while and then I move on.

Since starting POP around three years ago I have raised around $60,000 for beneficiaries including The Florey Neurosciences Institute, Parkinson's Victoria and Parkinson's Australia.

I am excited about the Unity Walk coming up in both Sydney and Melbourne on 30 August 2009. The event started in New York 15 years ago with 200 walkers, last year it raised USD $3.5 million. Let's see if the Aussies can do it better!

Register to walk by going to http://www.unitywalk.com.au

Or sponsor me at http://www.everydayhero.com.au/telstra_unitywalk

I look forward to strolling the banks of the Yarra with you on 30 August!

Take care,
Nerissa
